Unexpected Friendship

Friendship
Blogging has been an unexpected light in my life. My friend at "Farm Girl Digital Designs" has been telling me for a long time that we should start a blog here at Verde Farm. I thought it sounded like a good idea, but where to find the time? While Richie and I pondered starting a small business with our farm, we knew we needed a website. Jill, a.k.a. Farm Girl, came to the rescue. She designed our blog, header, button and took many of our pictures. I asked her to do a special button for Verde Cottage, and she did that, as well.  She's been so supportive and does wonderful work. Check out her website and check out her abundant creativity.
I remember putting up my first post and thinking: “Who would read this? Would this interest anyone but us?” I was shocked when I got my first comments. Shocked and thrilled. I quickly came to know many of you--and in such a short time. I felt as if I had new friends. I truly look forward to your posts, comments and e-mails. The graciousness and interest from folks all over the US, and the world, for that matter, is positive, warm and unexpected.

For example, I've received two spontaneous gifts in the mail for no reason at all.  My first was from Julie, at "Dog Trot Farm."She read one of my fall posts about decorations and my inability to find the cute crows she had in her house. Sure enough, a box full of crows flying south from Maine to West Virginia arrived in no time, along with a cute little pumpkin--a surprise for someone she didn't even know, out of the blue, just because.

Secondly, my friend Peggy at "A Primitive Plot" sent me an adorable pumpkin with a crow on top she designed herself. "Everyone needs a fun box in the mail sometimes," she said. And so, another crow flew from Michigan to West Virginia to someone she didn't even know, out of the blue, just because.

This is the way it goes with blogging. The people that love to blog are special folks and ultimately giving of themselves through their posts, comments, e-mails and so much more. I am so thankful for this unexpected gift and all my wonderful new friends who share their lives with me and allow me to share our lives with them.

You are so right, blogging is fun and you do meet wonderful people. I recently started following John Gray, who commented above me. I love his dry Brit humor.

Even though my blog is about Gordon Setters, I love the farm or country blogs. I have 5 dogs but no chickens, no goats, no little Porters! A visit to your blog at Verde Farm and some others like, Come By Chance, Henhouse Pottery, Milkweed and Teasel, gives me a chance to visit the farm and I've learned so much from you all. You're blog is beautiful and I look forward to visiting each day. I hope my blog serves the dog world as well as yours does the Farming community!

It really is a lovely community, isn't it? Tomorrow I'm going to have coffee with a woman I met through blogging - she lives up island and will be down for a few hours. We enjoy our chats, face to face and in the cyber world. On Monday I'll meet another blogger friend on the mainland - two women who have made my life richer and who I'd never have met but for blogging.

Amy...What amazes me, is the fact that 99% of the blogging pals I've met are such interesting, kind people. Anyone could read us. They could be nut cases! But nope...instead each one has been genuine, with so much to offer. Like Farmchick has said, she enjoys peeking into our lives and learning about us. Nothing would make me happier, than to meet these people face to face. So far, that has only happened to me twice...and one came all the way from Kentucky (Punkin's Patch). After reading posts on a regular basis, you really get to "know" people. And so many of the blogs I go to have several comments from people I already am familiar with. A big circle.

Your blog is fabulous!

Amy,
I know just what you mean! When I got my first comment I didn't even know to LOOK for it and it was weeks later! Then I got smart and have them sent to my email :) I was so excited every time a comment came through and I still AM!! You all make me smile and I appreciate each and every gesture! AND I know I can count on YOU Amy to always leave me a thoughtful comment! Thank you...

Thank you Amy, you have really summed it up, this incredible experience of blogging. It is hard to explain to non-bloggers who much it means to us. I posted some family pictures so my grandson could get them and I said no one will want to see this, Then I stopped to think that every day I look at family pictures of my blogger friends and love and enjoy them. You are all my extended family.
